HIPAA Breach! It Happened to Our Dental Practice

By | June 6, 2014

Six years ago I was the Office Manager for a Dental Practice that had a HIPAA breach through a theft of our office computers. The events that followed changed the practice and changed me forever. Building the practice back up was particularly difficult. After suffering such a breach in safety, it not only makes clients lose their trust in the security of the practice but makes you lose many clients due to the period of time we had to close. Something that was essential to pick the business up from the slump it had suffered from the breach was dental practice marketing strategies. Marketing is an essential part of any business, regardless of trauma or not, and was definitely needed at this point in time. Using SEO, social media, google ads, video marketing, and much more is something that greatly benefits any dental practice to build themselves up in such a competitive market. Outsourcing this marketing is even better, especially if you’ve suffered a breach like us and need to focus on more pressing matters. Despite the positive approach taken, with 20/20 hindsight, there were many things that we should have and could have easily done to prevent this disaster. I’m looking forward to share what I’ve learned so that others don’t fall into the same trap that we did.

During the Webinar, I will share:
· The many events that led up to the HIPAA breach
· The day of the computer theft
· The year of difficult events that followed
