Compliancy Group Helps Team Keep Achieve HIPAA Compliance

By | January 28, 2021

Compliancy Group has announced Team Keep has achieved compliance with the standards of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Team Keep is a nonprofit organization that has developed a secure online document storage solution for the homeless. The service can be used to store identification documentation to facilitate applications for government services and aid.

One of the most common reasons why the homeless are unable to receive benefits and apply for jobs is a lack of identification documents. The Team Keep application – Keep.id – aims to eliminate this barrier and help individuals escape the cycle of homelessness.

“HIPAA matters to us at Team Keep because it is the federal standard for protecting client information and it is important that all of our workforce is not only aware of the standards set under HIPAA but also practice good discretion for client PHI,” said Team Keep.

Since the Keep.id solution is used to store documentation that contains sensitive information, safeguards must be implemented to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of that information. To ensure that appropriate privacy and security measures were implemented, and risks and vulnerabilities to sensitive data were identified and managed, Team Keep sought assistance from Compliancy Group.

Team Keep used Compliancy Group’s proprietary HIPAA methodology and The Guard compliance tracking software solution to ensure its Keep.id application and policies and procedures were in line with HIPAA standards.

“Even if one of our volunteers does not work directly on the Keep.id application code, it is important that our entire team undergoes HIPAA training and maintains good security of their devices and workspaces,” explained Team Keep. “Given the nature of our application, asking the homeless to upload their identification documents, it is essential that not only is the site secure but also that all our members practice as if they do have access to client information.”

After completing Compliancy Group’s 6-Stage HIPAA Risk Analysis and remediation process, Compliancy Group awarded Team Keep the HIPAA Seal of Compliance. The HIPAA Seal of Compliance demonstrates Team Keep has implemented an effective HIPAA compliance program and is fully committed to protecting the privacy and security of sensitive data.
